Did you know?
As far as we know today, the first writing originated in cuneiform tablets around 5000 years ago. A tablet with cuneiform writing was found that tells the story of the great flood 4000 years ago, long before the story of Noah and the Ark. The first city was built around 6000 years ago and had a population of 50,000 people.

From around 5000 years ago, there was a recognised standard currency and a sophisticated system of loans and interest.

Our Ancient Near East group meets once a month to learn about and share what we know about ancient peoples and their lives.
