Our last Wellness session until September

So you think you know what a hospice is for? Who it is for? Most of us have no idea of the wide range of services and support offered by our local hospice, not only to patients but to families and friends. Why not come along to another of our Wellness sessions at the lovely Hill Close Gardens on Friday 19 June at 10 am, and find out? The session starts with coffee and there will be time for discussion and questions at the end of the talk. Our speaker is from Myton Hospice.

Email Anne Powell to book your free place!  (Anne worked in a hospice for 15 years so is mega enthusiastic about this talk!!).

An Afternoon in Oxford

On Monday 17th August the History of Art group will be visiting the Ashmolean Museum, Oxford by coach. We will have spare seats available on the coach, so if you fancy a stroll by the Thames in Christchurch gardens, or the Oxford Botanical Gardens, or an afternoon at the Westgate Shopping Centre, or some time in the Ashmolean Museum then please join us.
The coach will  leave at 1:00 from Tesco, Emscote Road, returning by about 5:30, giving us 2 hours in Oxford. Cost will be £25. Please book your place with John D Morgan  if you would like to come.

Houses and Housing – on Zoom
Much of the study of architecture concentrates on ecclesiastical buildings and stately homes. In this short series we will look mainly at the development of the type of housing that the majority of us live in. We will show the economic, material and social factors underlying the architecture.
The roughly one-hour sessions will be on Zoom on Friday afternoons at 2.00pm as follows:

24th April: The Victorian and Edwardian eras.
1st May: The 20th century: Out with the old and in with the new?

If you are interested in attending all or any of these Zoom sessions please email John at John D Morgan to receive the Zoom joining instructions.

Theatre Group        Pam Saunders The story so far - this new group has had an excellent start with a number of our 30 members enjoying local theatre productions together throughout April.  Arrangements are made via WhatsApp and we plan to meet up for coffee and a chat in June.

Swan Lake and The Nutcracker

Trips to the Birmingham Hippodrome to see the Birmingham Royal Ballet’s productions of Swan Lake on Sunday 27 th September at 1pm and The Nutcracker on Sunday 6 th December at 1pm are planned. For more information, please contact Ann Bailey

On Friday 30 January, Keith Kitto arranged a visit to tour the factory just near Morrison in Leamington. 26 of us were shown around the building, which is not only ecological (practically all wood, with only minimal heating when required) but beautiful - a very quiet production area, offices, exhibition space and kitchen all in the open-plan layout.

Our guide, Daniel, was a walking encyclopaedia of all things about Vitsœ, its products and history, calmly answering many varied questions from us. The business plan they follow is what should be common sense elsewhere but unfortunately isn't.
Their products are beautiful - and expensive, but are designed to last 100 years, so buying their very high-quality furniture or shelving is a real investment, which your [grand]children would doubtless appreciate in time.

There's already another tour planned, but if that's full, keep your fingers crossed for a third one - it's a morning very well spent - and includes coffee and lovely home-made cakes and biscuits at the end of the tour! If you are interested, please contact Sam Sexton.

COULD YOU BE OUR SPEAKERS ORGANISER?

Do you enjoy our speakers each month?  Would you like to have a say in choosing them? What’s involved?  Finding a speaker (internet, word of mouth, advertisements, repeat visits from good speakers!), confirming their attendance nearer the time, passing an invoice for them to be paid. That’s all!!  And note - we have already booked speakers for the whole of 2026. What else is involved?  A committee meeting once a month.  You don’t have to attend these meetings but it’s a great chance to be one of the team having a say in what we do in Warwick District u3a!  It
really is fun, and we all support one another. Interested – then please email [u3a_conatct name = "Anne Powell"] to arrange a chat about this important role.

Please contact Siân Brook Gillies if interested in either (or both!) for further details.

ABBA Voyage

Receiving Info

Did you know that you can receive Info via email? Over 500 of you already do so, but others are not aware of this option. You can have both the email and the paper version if you like. One advantage of the former is that you’ll get it a bit earlier than the printed version.

If you’re happy with what you receive at the moment, there’s no need to take any action.

If you’d like to receive this, please send an email to Ann Bailey. stating “Info email only”, “Info paper only” or “Info both” as appropriate.
